The 3rd International Conference on Protection against Overtopping will take place from 6-8 June 2018 in the UK's spectacular Lake District National Park.

The Lake District is England's largest National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It contains  England's highest mountains, and includes the biggest (and deepest) lakes as well as many tarns.  The National Park also includes some 26 miles of coastline and estuaries. Delegates will have the opportunity to see parts of this spectacular part of the UK as the conference programme includes technical visits across the region.

The Conference will be based at historical Grange Hotel and spa in picturesque Grange-over-Sands in Cumbria - see the hotel website for more details.

Delegates will be able to reserve  accommodation at The Grange Hotel as part of the conference registration process.

Travel information

Travel by air

For delegates arriving from outside the UK, the closest airport is Manchester International Airport; there is a direct train service from Manchester Airport to Grange-over-Sands railway satation. The station is opposite the hotel. Full details of the train service are available on from the Trans-Pennine Express website. Other international airports close by include Leeds Bradford International airport.

The journey from London airports is approximately 5-6 hours.

The hotel recommend using the LA11 6EH as a destination postcode in sat nav systems, as this will take you by a more direct route.

From Junction 36 M6 (Kendal / South Lakes), follow the A590 to Grange. We are directly opposite Grange Railway Station.

Ample parking spaces are available at the hotel.

Travel by train

Grange train station is located 400m from the front of the hotel and conference venue and can be easily accessed from Manchester Airport Railway Station. The journey time from the airport to Grange-over-Sands is 2 hours. The central train station, with short transfers to Grange-over-Sands, 20 minutes by taxi, is Oxenholme.

As well as direct links with Manchester Airport, Grange has regular services to the north and south of the UK, with direct links to Glasgow, Aberdeen and Preston. Full details are available on Network Rail's website.
